The Crew Behind the Northland's To-Do Lists
Twin Ports Contracting & Repair is a locally owned, non-franchise handyman company serving Duluth, MN, Superior, WI and the Northland, from Cloquet west to Bemidji and east to Poplar, WI — insured on both sides of the bridge, background-checked, and built on a simple idea: small jobs deserve professional service too.
Why Twin Ports Contracting & Repair Exists
Everyone in the Twin Ports knows the problem: try getting a contractor to call you back about a squeaky floor, a drywall patch, or a wobbly railing. Big outfits chase big jobs. The little stuff — the stuff that actually bugs you every single day — sits on the list for years.
Twin Ports Contracting & Repair was built to be the other kind of company. The one that treats a two-hour fix-it list with the same professionalism as a full deck build: a real quote upfront, a pro who shows up when promised, work done right, mess cleaned up, and a guarantee in writing. The one phone number that handles the whole house.
We live here, we work on both sides of the bridge, and we know what this climate does to houses — because it does it to ours too. That's the company. No call centers, no franchises, no upsells. Just skilled hands and straight answers, from a small repair list to a bathroom remodel, a new deck or a rebuilt retaining wall.

The Standards We Don't Bend
We Show Up
On time, with the tools for the job. If anything changes your appointment window, you hear from us first — not silence.
We Tell the Truth
About what it costs, what it needs, what can wait, and what's outside our lane. If a licensed specialist should do it, we say so on the spot.
We Stand Behind It
Every job carries our written workmanship guarantee. If something we fixed doesn't stay fixed, we come back and make it right at no charge.
The Twin Ports Contracting & Repair Guarantee: done right, or done again — at no charge. It's in writing on every quote.
Insured, Checked & Accountable
Insurance: we carry liability insurance covering our work in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, and we're happy to provide a certificate of insurance for any job — property managers, just ask.
People: everyone we send into your home is background-checked. You'll know who's coming before they arrive.
Fees and hours: a flat $95 on-site visit fee applies anywhere in our service area, with no mileage charge, and it is waived when you approve the work. We answer Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm, at (715) 919-7956.
Scope: we take on handyman-scope work and we're honest about its edges. We check what your address needs, and who the office requires to pull the permit, before we quote; work that legally requires a licensed electrician, plumber, or other specialty contractor gets referred to one we trust. Cutting corners on that stuff isn't a service — it's a liability we won't sell you.
From a Repair List to an Agreed Result
Our role starts with understanding what you want fixed and how the finished work should look and function. A drywall patch ready for paint, a painted wall and a complete room refresh are different jobs. The same applies to adjusting a sticking door versus replacing its frame and trim.
- Describe the work. Send your name, phone number and at least one job through the quote form. Add photos, measurements and product details when available. Mark the items that matter most.
- Scope and access. We go over the tasks, materials and access, and flag anything that needs a separate specialist or a permit. Photos usually get us most of the way; some jobs need a quick look on site first.
- Approve the written quote. Check the included work, exclusions, finish, material arrangements and payment terms. Our pricing page explains the service and dispatch fee. Additional work needs an agreed change.
- Review completion. Walk through the accepted list, check operation and appearance, and review cleanup and any remaining steps. Keep the written scope and workmanship guarantee with your project records.
Repair, Installation and the Work Between Them
Our service guides explain drywall and painting, carpentry, doors and windows, mounting, deck repairs and other requested tasks. They also say plainly where our work stops: new circuits, gas lines, water heaters, main drains and roofing go to licensed specialists.
For location planning, start with the Duluth and Superior pages, then see the Minnesota and Wisconsin town guides. Each one has local planning notes and links to the services that fit. The blog and planning guides help you organize the list before contacting us.
How to Use Our Home Repair Guides
Our guides explain project choices and the information needed for a quote. Articles are attributed to Twin Ports Contracting & Repair and show their publication date, with a separate update date when revised. Where an article discusses a manufacturer's requirements or a technical reference, follow the linked source and the instructions for the actual product.
These guides are general: your property gets its own look and a quote in writing. Company prices come from our own price table, national ranges are labeled with their source, and permit facts link to the City of Duluth, the City of Superior or the state. To flag an unclear or outdated statement, contact us with the guide title and the point you want checked.
The Questions Worth Asking Any Contractor
Can I see your certificate of insurance?
Yes. Ask before you book and we'll send a certificate of insurance showing our liability coverage for work in both states; property managers can request one for the building owner's file. Ask for our license status in writing at the same time, and ask every other contractor you call for both. Our guide to Minnesota handyman licensing explains which work needs which credential. Anyone who gets vague about that request is telling you something.
Who will actually be in my home?
A background-checked Twin Ports Contracting & Repair pro — not a stranger sold your details by a lead-generation app. You'll know who's coming before the doorbell rings, and boots come off or booties go on. Property managers can ask for the same details before each tenant visit, so the tenant knows who to expect.
What happens if the work fails?
The guarantee is in writing on every quote: if our workmanship fails, we come back and redo it at no charge. Done right, or done again. That's a warranty on our labor — manufacturer defects in parts follow the manufacturer's own warranty, and we'll help you claim it.
Are you a franchise?
No. Twin Ports Contracting & Repair is locally owned and operated in the Twin Ports, with no franchise office or national call center between you and the crew. That's why we can tell you when a job isn't worth doing instead of upselling a package somebody else wrote, and why the person quoting your job is the company you'll deal with afterward.
